    Stromberg identification help required

    Hi all
    Hopefully someone out there can help I'm trying to identify my carbs with a view to servicing them to see if I can solve a tick over problem.
    I got the ID number from the copper tag on the carb but couldn't find it in the list of carbs fitted to Stags?
    The ID numbers are 640 3890 L/R
    The car is a late 1977 MK2 manual, engine number LF/43614-HE
    I have got some guides which I downloaded from links mentioned on the forum but they are not the same as my carbs. Mine are similar but have a bung/plug in the bottom of the float chamber were the jet is shown in the guides or haynes manual that I have. The car starts and runs well but dies at junctions if not caught on the accelerator so the carbs aren't a disaster just a bit of a mystery?
    Anyway any information or help would be greatly appreciated.

      Peter.
      The ones with the jet adjusters at the bottom of the float chamber were never fitted to stags. Your car should be fitted with 175 CDSEV carburettors.(with bungs) that adjust with a special tool that fits down inside the oil filled damper. Service kits should have all the parts you need,, but if you are just suffering from occasional stalling, it could be a simple matter of adjusting the mixture and throttle stop settings. Setting them up is not difficult if you follow the instructions closely.

        Thanks Mike, I got the guide from a link posted on here so thought it would be the correct one. I have fitted the service kit and given them a clean so hopefully things will be better when I refit them, a job for this weekend. Wish me luck!

          Afaiaa the oem zenith kit is only available as one type….stag cd175.
          I recall having to modify one of the new throttle spindles to fit it ‘blind’ on one end, as per late original spec.
          Some of the kits parts remain unused as it’s universal.

            3890 strombergs seem to be limited to Triumph TR8 installations. Rover v8 rocker covers have a neat cut out on for access to the adjuster.

            A call to Burlen will see you have the correct rebuild kit for the carbs.

            Also if you can tolerate a little workshop profanity I have a few vids on youtube about the strommie

                    nut and bolt restorations of land rover products made before 1994. i have also worked on a couple of stags and have another due next month.

                              Your videos are great. I got inspired by them to do a few myself. I was however, surprised with your water pump rebuild one. You we able to get the impeller off with a hammer. I broke two.
