The thing is they have to also balance to the crank. If you got to the trouble of matching all the pistons/con rods then their reciprocating mass( or is it a half or 1/3 can’t remember) may be different to the webs on the crank. Which will then through out all the good work done.
Balancing is an odd thing as you have to work out all manor of things. It not just a case of making everything the same mass, there’s the left and right unbalance to also consider. Personally I wouldn’t do it myself, with a Dremel. Best of taking it to a machine shop who specialise it that sort of thing. Something I regret not doing myself when I fitted new pistons and rods. A good “shop” will take the pistons rods and crank and do the whole reciprocating mass thing.
Pistons usually the bottom of the lowest point the skirt, rods from the mottos of the cap on the flat area.
but take the lot and have it dynamic balanced, they will mark the clutch cover so you know where it goes.
Fwiw the county +020 pistons were 7grammes lighter than hepolite +020 mk1 pistons. (Was expecting them to be heavier) both were new when weighed. I have a spreadsheet somewhere.
Dont be too worried about the converter.
Its worth having it cut open cleaned, rebuilt & balanced, but forms a good damper when operating.
