water pump fitting

Hi Guys, I'm going to refit the water pump housing would like to ask any one regarding the fitting of the gaskets. I have seen the procedure/measuring etc but if using several gaskets should the silicone be applied to the face of the housing plus in-between gaskets and the face of the engine block, in other words all areas .?

I would not put silicon anywhere near the cooling system. Use Hylomar or Wellseal (my favourite) or, if the faces are good, just grease. If multiple gaskets are needed (and I have only ever needed to use one) then between all faces.

thanks, when I said silicone I really meant a gasket compound.
