Hi all, do the petrol overflow pipes use clips to secure them to the carbs ? may be a silly question but mine are just push fit and i cant find any references.

Carb petrol overflow pipes

When I fitted out my carbs, I googled Stag engine bays and had a look at several engines. Non of them had clips but rather they were held on by these adaptors.

I got a pair of those things for my breather pipes and they didn’t fit, too small to go over the fitting in the carbs.. didn’t think to try them on the vent pipes which are smaller diameter.. I just used appropriate sized fuel line for those.. I didn’t use any clamps as there is really no pressure involved, it just dumps to the floor (or charcoal canister in my case)
For the breather pipes I used some short pieces of fuel line that nicely fit the carb stubs and the OD was a perfect fit for the breather hoses.Terry Hunt, Wilmington Delaware

I think that is just another example to add to the list of cock-ups in the Triumph publications, and I hadn't noticed it before. As others have said, the overflow hoses just fit straight on to the carburettors.
They are principally vent pipes from the float chamber, in which case the raised position doesn't matter, but as an overflow, you re routing seems a very sensible idea.

The only problem is , if like my petrol overflow pipes, they are not very new and are a bit hard and brittle,so if like my stag the float has stuck then the excess fuel has to go somewhere. It should vent out and on to the floor but mine came straight out of the carb squeezing between the rubber pipe and onto a hot engine. I think i will go belt and braces with new pipe and clips so that should never happen again.
