    Radiator mounting

    Hi all,
just removed my radiator. The bottom fixings don't look stock. It's an rv8 conversion so could be because if this. There seem to be 2 studs at the bottom of the Rad that look like stock fixing. But the Rad is mounted using separate studs at the rear of the bottom of the Rad. These fit through holes in tabs that in turn are bolted to the rear of the from valance. Photos below. Anyone got photos of the correct mounting or is this correct ?

It looks like your radiator support panel is missing, may be because ive got a Rover fitted

Has your bonnet support panel been cut into? Some RV 8 owners do this to bring the rad more forward to clear the engine, on older conversions they had to have the rad sloping forward, with holes drilled into the lower apron for the rad studs , your rad support panel is missing, not sure if that is a strength concern for rigidity of the front end , regards Graham

Would be great to have a photo of this region on a fully intact stag, so I know what I am missing. The rad is pretty much vertically mounted but I will probably modify the mounting to add some rubber mounts on the bottom to protect the rad from vibration.

        Cheers

Aha.. looks like the top panel has been moded to move the Rad forward. Done quite neatly with a folder edge keeping the strength. Beginning to make sense now.

The second panel from the bottom is what you are missing on your car , lower radiator support panel , it welds on to the lower apron . Graham

                Thanks Stagwingnut,
Makes sense. Suspect this would not work with the more forward position of the Rad. I think the top mounts are fine, but will look to beef up the bottom mounts a little.

Just a thought….were they altered to get the radiator close (r) or further to the fan?

The car had a Kenlow fan in front of the radiator so I don't think it was moved because of fan spacing. I think it was mainly to clear the front of the rv8 engine. I'm going to replace the Kenlow with a more modern spal fan mounted directly to the Rad. Will give more airflow, not that I have seen any overheating but I don't know the age of the fan and would rather a new one for peace of mind.
