    Radiator filler neck washer

Could someone advise what the recommended washer is and where to obtain it for the filler neck on a "Mk 2" radiator.

It was mentioned in an earlier thread which has been deleted but I didn't make a note of it.

Hello Norton, I believe this is filler plug sealing ring mentioned in the previous thread. Make a note of it before this gets deleted too

Me too. Probably the header tank being mentioned. Whoops; didn't mean to mention the unmentionable.

Great, thanks for that - I've printed it off for reference.

Sorry, it was finger trouble at 6am today. I'd written something and deleted it, but managed to delete the thread too. I have re-instated it now.

            With apologies,
            Richard

My plug washer is red fibre material, used it for years, no problems.

As is mine. Had the same washer for over 10 years and never changed it though the top gets removed regularly - well at least once a year! - to check the rad water level. Still using the "standard" (MK2) system with the original expansion bottle. Rarely, if ever, have to top it up.

A while back I managed to replace a slightly chewed up brass filler for a Land Rover part. It had a full width slot as per the triumph filler, but also had a captive o-ring.
its lasted very well. Also only needs a very low torque to stay tight.
part number begins ERR. Don’t know the rest sorry

I have always used a red fibre seal from a box of assorted sizes bought at Stoneleigh some years ago. I have seen them elsewhere since. I don't over tighten the brass cap due to the possibility of breaking the collar/neck seal. Never had a leak from there, and I have re-used the same washer several times, notwithstanding the fact that I have many more!
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

I think what ever sealing system you decide to go for all types of seal will benefit from rubbing to top of the neck where the seal sit with a flat oil stone, to remove any burrs and poor turned finish making a better surface for your chosen seal type. just my thoughts
