Hi,
Where could I get a set of Champion N9YC Sparks from.
I want the real McCoy, for I heard there are a lot of fakes floating about. How do you identify the genuine ones and who are the reputed sellers?.
Thanks for that, I might even consider the Champion N12YCC which runs hotter. Tony Hart never uses any other.
At the moment I have Champions N9YC's which came brand new with the rebuilt engine, its runs spot on with them. Going by the book,
so all these years they were running the engines ok.................. I have tried NGK, Denso, Bosch, single, double, treble quad, V Grooved, Flat , Iridium non Iridium, Copper, Platinum, etc, etc.
Never did notice any difference at all.........
Tuppence worth.
When I got a Stag. it came with 7 of them. I bought one off ebay. I plan to use them. Our modern car has ones u change at 100k miles. I wonder if any such modern plugs can be used on the stag. 20 years later I'm still using the same plugs only covered less than 10k and still look ok.

In the industry there was a saying :- champion plugs are great, so long as you don’t fit them to an engine.
Woolworth actually sold them in bubble packs of 5, but for a 4 cylinder application. Nuf said.
Ngk are a better bet but still have to avoid fakes.
I have noticed that Ldparts Peter has NGK BP5E instead of BP5ES, this is because of the 'V ' groove. Which has a better burn and use lower voltage.
This goes with the NGK website and also recommended by NGK.
Spark Plugs with V-Groove in the Centre Electrode.
The principle of NGK SPARK PLUG’s patented V-grooved spark plugs is technically simple but very effective. A V-groove is situated in the centre electrode. This forces the spark to occur at the outer edge of the centre electrode where it is easier to ignite the air-fuel mixture. In addition, the voltage required to produce a spark is reduced. These two features give the benefit of improved ignitability, even under extreme operating conditions.
So which do members use NGK BP5E ( ' V 'groove ) OR NGK BP5ES
Spark plugs again. Apologies for bringing this back up.
I've been carrying a set of Denso W16EP-U plugs in the boot as touring spares for some while. Now I think it's time that the set of Surefire (Unipart?) plugs fitted were changed. I can't recall where I bought the Denso's - it would have been one of the reputable suppliers. It's likely that the currently fitted Surefire's came from Unipart.
Over cautious and over thinking things again I thought I'd check out Denso plugs as it's not a name that I immediately recognised.
The Denso website tells me that W=14MM thread (and the spanner hex size), 16= the heat range (same as NGK 5, Champion 11 and 12), E= 19mm reach, P= 1.5mm electrode projection, and -U= v grooved ground electrode.
Strangely the Denso website recommends the W16EPR-U plug, which would be the resistive (5Kohm resistor) type, which surely isn't right.
Interestingly the NGK website now seems to recommend the BP5ES plug for the Stag, and LD parts no longer stock the BP5E. SOC Spares stock the BP5ES.
I'm pretty comfortable that the Denso's I have are the correct spec so I'll fit them, but I will need to buy another set as spares, for next change, BP5E or ES.......?
