    Cam Cover leak

I did not know that a slight weep from the right side (near half moon) could cause such a big puddle of oil.
I took off the cam cover AGAIN and with the gasket still intact......which was glued down on the cover with Evo stick and a slight smear of LM grease on the head surface.
I then used Loctite gasket sealant yesterday and left it until this afternoon. Took the Stag for a run again (second time) down the A40. No leaks .

I got the wrong info on here regarding the overdrive, the switch was in the ' OUT ' position which is wrong. I put it in the ' IN ' position so therefore when I wanted overdrive I flicked it in the ' OUT ' position...overdrive works beautifully

The 'J ' type really brings the revs down considerably.

Just bought the Bosch 501590017 oil filter and have the Fuzz Townsend Heriitage oil and a magnetic sump plug which will be next job tomorrow.

What made you suspect these rubber bushes and how did you manage to trace your leak to the 1/2 moons? Presumably the rear one.
Mine also has an occasional drip after a run, and seems to originate from the oil pump relief valve.
But extremely hard to be sure as this may just be the lowest point for the oil to accumulate.

It took time.....firstly I cleaned up the valve area and pipes including the spin on oil filter/adaptor. Cleaned the rear and right side of the right cam cover.
So every time the engine run up to temperature I checked the floor and above mentioned parts after the engine cooled down ( about a couple of hours ).
Done this a few times, so noticed and concluded that the cam cover was leaking at the rear right side.
I had swapped the cam covers over some time back, as the so called expert engine rebuilders from Classic and Modern had the cam covers wrong way round....the right side one on the left and the left side one on the right. After I swapped them round the right side one always leaked. This is the second time round I have replaced the gasket.

Yes you are right, I have a slight....very slight weep from the ' o ' ring.....JBuckl have adviced me how to take the 'o' ring out if I need to change it.

How did you couple up the breather pipes with the covers on the wrong way round? Topping up with oil must have been tricky as well!

No, when I got the car it was a new rebuilt. I was putting the car together...it was just an engine with no carbs, alternator etc, etc. Then a friend noticed the cam covers were stuck on wrong......I just took it for granted, never realised. Changed the covers over, after a while when all was ready then I put the oil in.

Thats how the rebuilders done it! Wrongly put the cams on.
