Door mirror shaking

My door mirror...after removal and refitting started shaking and was loose at the stem joining the base. Looked up this thread but was inconclusive.

What I done was inserted a very small spire nut between the base and sten at one side...its not noticable and can be removed at a later stage as and when required, its stop the shaking and the mirror can be turned.

But....you have to insert it in such a way so that the recess on the spire nut sits in harmony with the recess which is on the base and under the stem.

I tried putting a packing washer under the ?bayonet washer? It was very difficult to compress the spring but achieved it with a valve spring compressor. It helped but the shiny slippery chrome mating surfaces still allowed it to rotate a bit. I considered roughing up the surfaces but it’s ok enough that I never bothered..

Owners with this problem may be interested to know that a new design of gasket between the mirror and the door has just been made, which cures the loose arm problem by locating the gasket securely . They are also slightly wedge shaped to help improve the angle of the mirror on the door.
I have fitted a pair and am very pleased with them.
I got mine from SOC spares.
