    Bonnet Seal

Hi, Is this the bonnet seal? If so then where do the pegs locate...are there already pre-drilled holes on the bonnet? I cannot check as my Stag is not with me at the moment.

I recall you glue it on or self adhesive.

        Hi
Maybe the clue is in the name of the URL, it says Door Seal.

That looks like the correct seal, which has been unobtainable for many years. The bonnet has holes for the locating pegs, but only stick-on seals have been available. Where did you get the photos? I do not see a link to a supplier.

I read on this forum that prior to fitting if you cut the top end both (nearest to the rubber bungs ) sides an inch or two, this would help to dissipate some heat from engine bay.

Does this work? Anyone done this?

Leaving the seal off is what some people do for allowing the heat out. The original doesn’t extend all the way across the scuttle though.

Mine still has an original, full width, pegged seal. No need to cut anything. More barroom expert rubbish.

Right there Dave - I'd have though that doing anything that stops the bonnet sealing against the scuttle would allow engine fumes to enter the air intake...?

One of the seal's primary functions is to prevent rain water etc. swamping the engine bay electrics. As there is no lip on the scuttle, it diverts water past the bonnet rubber pads, so that it runs down the wing-top channels. Leaving the seal off, or chopping it, won't necessarily improve heat dissipation, but will probably increase the chance of water getting into the fuse box or other vulnerable components, or even find its way past the bulkhead pad to the inside of the car.

In the attached photo, you can see a faint witness mark where my seal touches the scuttle, so that water goes outside of the rubber pad.

                        Other Dave

Mine is also original & uncut.
Fwiw it’s a fairly poor seal though.
Nice to see a replacement is available though.
