In the absence of any official announcement, I thought it right to inform the members of the death of a former prominent forum contributor. Some of you will remember Martin Stevenson, "Martin" on the forum. Sadly he died last week. Martin was a loyal SOC member and co-ordinator of Northampton group. He loved his Stag and contributed a lot of time and his extensive knowledge to the forum.
Martin said what he thought, probably due to his Australian upbringing, he was usually right but he did not suffer fools gladly, which did not go down well with certain members of the forum. Unfortunately this led to him being banned from the forum, a decision that devastated him and led to him selling his beloved GYM 400N. Underneath the sometimes brusque outer shell Martin was a great friend to all who bothered to get to know him, he was generous in all ways and very kind and thoughtful.
He loved a joke and a slightly risque t-shirt. I remember when someone was doing a long and very detailed restoration. Martin asked if he was using dental tools, that’s the kind of guy he was.
If I remember correctly, GYM had an interesting history, it was one owner from new, the previous owner being the Schreiber family as in the furniture manufacturer. At 40,000 miles he had Wards replace the timing chains and was told they still had a few 1000 miles left in them.
The photo shows Martin with the two loves of his life with a few friends at Lake Windermere
