My dumb question of the day- speedo angle drive

Back underneath one more time to revive my speedometer, but using BETTER parts this time, in the hope that I finally get it right. (Yes, I'm using the washer)

My dumb question is: What does the small screw on the angle drive do? Is that supposed to be loose for fitting, then tightened when speedometer cable is inserted? Can't find a reference in the ROM or Laycock training manual.....Can't believe it has no purpose; I just don't know what it is......

Will delay fitting the rest until this mystery is solved.....Also, any other LHD owners out there: How does your speedo cable run in the tunnel? I've gotten 2 cables for LHD, and one is 8" longer than the new one I'm about to install (new one looks to be a more appropriate length. No depiction of routing that I can find....

Hello Steve. in in CA and bought a cable from LD PARTS . I had to buy a cable for a LHD with OD. My car didn't have a gearbox or engine. I cant recall the length but I felt it being much longer than I really needed. I just placed it over the top. Regarding the screw most likely a manufacturer thing. There are some bad quality angle drives out there. Feel free to call any time ( I started working on getting a parts car on the road, when I found another car without an engine and box. I now have two driver Stags on the road. I still have the parts car. Lots of good info here. Terry Hunt also on this list is a great resource for advice. Terry is in DE.

I got a new LHD cable from rimmer (probably) as Sujit said it was a bit long but worked out fine, I would imagine the one 8 inches smaller would also fit..

Not 100% sure but I think the screw is removed for adding lubricant. I had one drop the rear cover and the gear almost dropped out.. never found the cover so had to get a replacement (used)

Sujit- will be happy to measure both before the install....Gave up for today to be a football watching slug.

Ps- On Terry's advice, removed my phone number off the Forum. He advised that robot pickup/junk calls result from same. You may want to remove yours....I'll text you when I measure the cables tomorrow directly.

That's a classic way to deal with those twits; I'll have to try that on my next robocall......wonder how much an "extended warranty on a 73 Stag" would cost....billions?!?

I do the same. I say, "I was just thinking of calling you. I have a 1986 Ford F-150 farm truck. First year of the fuel injection [and then proceed to rattle on until they interrupt me]". They always ask, "don't you have anything newer?" Then they take me off their list.

They use (robot) software to scan the internet looking for emails and phone numbers names etc. which they sell to these people.. so the less you expose your number/ email the better.

My email is openly on my websites and I get upwards of 200 spam mails a day, I have another that I only use for the real important stuff like banks etc which gets none.. My phone number may be exposed a bit but I keep it to a minimum.
I do get robocalling but don’t answer unless you are on my contact list as doing that can confirm to them that it’s a good one Anyone who has real business with me will leave a message.

It's usually fairly obvious when it's a telemarketer/scammer calls. Since I go by my middle name (Steve), and spell (phonetically ) "Moore" funny, when someone calls and asks for "Bill MoHar", i simply tell them that he's both bankrupt, and dead......Problem Solved!
