it did not have any chassis or sills!
it was changed for a newer model when it collapsed.
that might sound horrifying …. But at least you knew where the keys would be…. Left in the ignition

Got the car back together. It took a week to get new lock nuts. I wend for a drive with my Triumph club, all seemed well at first, but then I could hear a slight knocking noise over bumps. Isolated the noise to the top mount. Went in shed and found a good one. Removed strut, removed top mount and found the PO forgot to put a trust washer on one side of the mount. I've been driving the car for a year, and didn't hear this sound before so maybe it was stuck solid.

New updates, that is if anyone is interested. The PO forgot to put the tube (https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-138599) in the right hand side top mount. The washers over time started to deform and introduce play.
Go that sorted and was still hearing a knock. Only thing left was the lower left ball joint. I'm still not convinced its that as I can't feel a thing. So I got out a spare arm put a new bush and ball joint on it and swapped it out. So far knock has gone, but yet to test.

In the late 70's I was drivern round the bend by persistent inability to sucessfully balance the front wheels of a 2500S shod with Michelin XAS tyres. The local ATS repeatedly tried to balance he wheels including "on the car" and this would be fine for a couple of weeks and then the wobble would start again. It turned out to be slop in the frunt strut top mounts but the diagnosis of this wasn't obvious - perhaps not expected in a then three year old car with less than 40 K miles.

Getting back to this topic with an update. I took the Stag to visit a Triumph buddy who lives on the other side of this windy road where I initially reported my problem. I still have the vibration. I described the problem to him and he explained in scientific terms, which are somewhat above my grade level, it's likely the tie rod end. He is mechanical engineer and has a passion for working on cars. I don't get to take the car out much on this road and it will probably be another few months before I report back. I will swap out the tie rod end for now. If the problem persists I will swap the wheels around.
