    Front Ride Height

    Hi All

My new Mk 1 Stag had the suspension rebuilt by the previous owner. However, the front ride height (centre of hub to bottom of wing) is 15.5", whereas the back is 14.5". From reading here the 14.5" is correct.

I found a receipt for a standard length front spring (215518) from a usual trusted supplier, so I can't figure out why it is so high on the front.

Is it because it is new? Is there anything other component(s) that would cause the ride height to be too high?

If I switch to 1" lowered progressive from Wards or Monarch will it end up being too low?

    Thanks
    Jeff

    Jeff.
There have been regular comments here about incorrect spring lengths, and "Trusted suppliers" have not always had the right ones. No doubt someone will now say where they bought correct ones, but I have heard that the ones from SOC Spares will give you the correct ride height.
    Mike.

I am in the process of overhauling my suspension and steering and I did quite a bit of research, spoke to several suppliers, viewed comments on here etc. My conclusion is the same as Mike's above, the best springs are via SOC Spares using Swedish steel and made in the UK. For polybushes use Superflex via Chris Witor. For 'sportier' steering it is worth checking out Classic Driving Developments who offer several products for Stags, including 20% and even 40% stiffer power steering pump springs.

        Thanks Mike & Paul.

Unfortunately SOC out of stock! I'll send a message and ask if they are getting any more in.

        Thanks

Good luck Jeff. Ask Stuart at SOC Spares to put you down for a set for when he gets stock in - I had to wait a few weeks. Supply is patchy currently. Paul

I had the same problem. Now have have Chris Witor 1" lowered at the front.

                Hi Chris,
with the CW 1” lowered, what does the front measure wheel centre to arch?
My Stag front is higher at the front than back, 15 1/4 at front, 14 1/4 at the back.

you are super lucky. I've been swapping out springs with old stuff. I currently have my front sitting at 16 on one side and 15.5 on the other at the front. I had 13.5 at the back. I went and bought Monarch 1.5 inch lower springs . have not fitted yet. this is for Stag no. 1

Should not the Stag be lower front end then the back? The stance looks better.

Sorry Guy's I am a bit confused here.

                      Is 15.5" front, 14.5" rear standard/normal?

                      Cheers

I had new springs incorrectly supplied from a specialist supplier in heartfordshire I was advised beforehand to use Soc or wins international, who were both out of stock.
Afaiaa, chris witor has correct springs.
disapointed this is still an issue at trusted suppliers.
was a bit painful to find how far out parts are after buying & fitting.
it seems pointless trying to provide correct information to some suppliers too.

Mine now measures 14" with the Chris Witor front springs. A little lowered but fine for me.

Cheers. I bought a complete set of front and rear suspension from rimmers and I have 15" all round.
