    Lost valve timing

    Morning
I am in need of help to set the valve timing on the right hand bank of my engine which is out of the car.. While setting the tappet clearance with new shims I lost the timing on that bank. I don’t know why because didn’t move the crank.
The left hand is still timed ok. I assume the jack shaft is ok as that wasn’t disturbed.
The camshaft sits with all camlobes not depressing the buckets. The cam sprocket is not attached at the moment.
I did mark with white the positions of sprocket to the cap and bolt hole. However, when I bolted it up the engine turned by hand a little before encountering resistance. I can’t see any external reason for this. When disconnected as it is now the engine turns with the left hand bank valves opening and closing.
Haynes manual is of no use. No surprise!
    cheers Mel

Your only chance here is to remove the RH cam again so you can turn the engine without bending the right hand valves. Set the timing marks on the LH cam by turning the crank.
Make sure the rotor arm is pointing at no2 cylinder in the distributor, then refit the RH cam and time it correctly.
I once did this without aligning the rotor arm and discovered when I started the engine that I was one complete turn of the crank out of position. The valves don't hit anything as they are timed to the pistons on that bank, but the sparks arrive at completely the wrong time so it only runs on 4 cylinders

It’s timed with no2 at tdc (firing, not exhaust) then both cams aligned to the caps.
you’ll probably need to reset the tensioner.
get a copy of the repair operation manual.

Hi as I redid the work I discovered that I had used an erroneous mark on the camshaft!! Once the correct mark had been used the timing was correct .
          Thanks Mel

Good to hear. Do use a leyland repair manual if possible.
