The MoT did change last year (Feb 2021) but only for Heavy goods vehicles, coaches / busses and minibuses and only for certain tyres/axles.
The MoT will only fail an "old" tyre if the cracks on the side walls expose the cords. The tester may put an advisory (or what ever the latest phrase they use is) to the effect of "Near side rear tyre side wall cracked but cords not exposed"
Full details here:
Earlier this year, the government announced that tyres aged 10 years and older will be banned on the front axles of lorries, buses and coaches....

Personally, I'd never rely on a tyre that was 10 years old or more. There's a lot happening with a tyre, it is supposed to be moving most of the time, and if you find one that is 10 years old and still has tread on it, then it must have spent a long time stationery. Therefore, it's a death trap.Richard
