    Side stripe

    Hi Guys,
I would really appreciate your help. I have now got the Stag back from the bodyshop. I need to fit the Silver stripe on.
The chap at the body shop was being honest...he could not and did not want to bodge up the stripe as he has never done it before.

Could someone please offer me some suggestions as to how I can attemp it myself?

This post covers it.. only issue I had was over the rear arch where it goes down to a single stripe, I pre cut it and found it hard to maintain tension. The other side I left it alone and removed the lower part of the stripe after the position was set.

When I used to apply them many many years ago I was taught to apply a couple of inches at the front with the backing hanging down to form a tag, pull the tape the full length of the car to get the line, if you have help while you holt the line and tension your helper pulls the backing tape back towards you and the tape will stick in place..
if you don't have help there are 2 ways,
apply the first 2 inches then as you move to the rear of the car pull the backing off but keep the tape off the car, when you get to the back eye the line and gradually apply the tape without pressind it on just lay it, this way it can be lifted and repositioned. Or the laymans method hold it in place with small pieces of masking tape and gradually remove the backing, but this can cause you to have a line that is not a smooth run, it's worth having a practice a few times a pulling the full length using masking tape as it cheap.
the biggest we had to fit were the RS 2000 ones that almost covered the side of the car great fun.

I ran a piece of masking tape a few mm above where the line goes as a guide then where the bottom line is cut above the wheel arch put a piece of masking tape the shape of the piece you want to remove then when the line is on cut where the ends of the masking tape comes to with a Stanley knife and peel off the masking tape and unwanted line

I fitted mine a few months ago in the warmer weather when the panels were warm and dry. Just follow advice in the thread that Trunt has posted, if not confident then go to a coach builder or sprayer who can fit them properly.

I saw a video yesterday about the chap that puts the coachlines on new Rolls Royce cars. He uses paint, a camel hair brush and no masking or guides at all - just his eye!

Got quoted £100 for it by A body shop specialising in tinting , graphics, Decals etc, etc.
I think 50-70 is more resonable. But the peace of mind that it will be done properly and under warranty is worth it.
