    Stag heater valve puller

    Hi Folks,
Now I know why my heater is not working.. The lug on the heater valve has rounded so I need to remove the valve and fit a new one ..
I know there has been a specialist puller made for this job.. does anyone have one I can borrow?
    Cheers
    Tim

Thanks. Managed it in the end with a 22mm compression fitting and 2 6-32 unc screws. See picture 20220213_144521.jpg

Cool! Would you like to write 2 or 3 sentences how you used it and I'll pop it into the technical section as a pdf

            The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

              Surething.

              MATERIALS:

1 X 22mm compression fitting (stop end). Available from plumbing stores (I used screwfix part 38046)
2 X 6-32 UNC machine screws (3/4 inch & 1 inch length). I bought a box of assorted (always useful to have around)
              A Phillips Screwdriver
              2 30mm spanners or 2 adjustable spanners
              some Plusgas penetrating fluid
              pipe wrench

              METHOD:
              1) locate the valve (drivers footwell side of the heater)
              2) undo the phillips screw holding the plate on the end of the valve (the plate connects the valve to the rest of the heater mechanism by a rod). The screw can be tough to undo and you do not want to strip the head so if it is tight apply some plusgas fluid and leave for a while. In my case the head of the screw was already in bad shape so I cut a slot in the head with a dremel and a cutting disc and used a slotted screwdriver.
              3) remove the plate and leave it dangling on the rest of the heater mechanism
              4) drill a whole in the centre of the endcap of the compression fitting large enough to allow the 6-32 UNC screw to pass though (but not the head of the screw).
              5) place the open end of the compression fitting over the valve.
              6) put the 1 inch screw through the hole in the fitting and screw it into the valve (the whole where the screw was removed in step 2).
              7) once the screw is tight put one spanner on the hex in the compression fitting nearest the gearbox tunnel and another spanner on the hex on the endcap.
              8) now this is the slightly tricky bit.. hold the screw still with a screwdriver and undo the endcap while ensuring the inner hex and screw do not move.
              9) the unscrewing action of the endcap pulls the valve out of the housing.
              10) eventually the encap will fully unscrew. At this point undo the screw and look at the valve. It may be far enough out to pull it all the way out with a pipe wrench or similar.
              11) if you cannot remove the valve with a pipe wrench at this point, repeat steps 5-8 using the 3/4 inch screw. This pulls the valve further out so that it should be easy to remove
              12) once removed, have a cuppa

NOTE. It is probably a good plan to cover the footwell with some plastic sheet in case of fluid leakage from the valve
