Front Grille badge removal

Last night a friend of mine handed me a perfect NOS front grille badge insert, in Black. Bingo! My Mk2 has a grey one for some reason.

So how do I get the grey one out without damaging it? someone may need it.. will a little heat help?

Failing that I see new badge chrome surrounds on sale, what is the quality of those? maybe I can sell on the grey badge to cover the cost of that?

I am also interested to know. I need to remove mine from the grill so I can get the grill straightened. The retaining nuts are a solid lump of rust, so I need to cut them off and replace the bolts.

The one I got seems to be a new original, the guy did have a Stag 20-30 years ago and found this in a draw or something..

Ok, but not reproduction. They are good but I have yet to affix a reproduction badge in my reproduction surround. That's not an euphemism! Regards, John.

Sorry, I misunderstood, so the new holders are stainless.. Ok that’s better than cheap nasty chrome then!
