    Fuel Pump Tick

Just fitted a new Electronic SU fuel pump.

Initially had a leak on the suction banjo but I believe it is sorted now. The pump now pressurises then ticks about every 12 secs.

Is this normal for an electric version? Once it pressurises I assumed it should not tick at all. (The old pump did not tick when at pressure.)

I have blocked the pipe at the carb end to ensure that it is not the float chamber valves letting by.

Sounds normal to me - is what my (new SU) pump does. Just slight leakage through the internal valves in the pump.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

Banjo leak on an electronic SU? That's interesting - see this thread from post 4 onwards:

Following on from my post a few days ago about "unknown pipe at fuel tank", I today removed the fuel pump to try to track the fuel smell in the boot. Horrible mixture of decaying fibre washers mixed with oversized copper washers sealing the banjos. Has anyone tried using copper or alloy washers to seal the banjos - or

I just bought a electronic pump from Burlen. The ports have O rings in shallow grooves. My outlet banjo had a flat face with a copper seal ring. The inlet banjo had a grooved face with a steel sealing ring. The pump was pulling air in through the inlet fitting, the outlet seemed OK and no fuel leaks. Continual ticking. I replaced both inlet and outlet seal rings with fiber ones and all seems good. Just a tick every 12 secs. I have not yet started the engine since the replacement.
