    clutch query

Hi all does anyone have any info or experience of the modified clutch release bearings? The Bros bearing has a flat bearing surface and LD has a more pronounced curvature than standard. Just wondering which may preferred and why.
    Thank you in advance

A bearing with a flat surface is never going to seat properly against the fingers of the clutch plate. The LD one is the correct shape and essentially similar to the original bearing.

I would avoid the heavy duty Koyo bearing sold by a few of the suppliers. It’s much stiffer to turn than the standard one, and mine started making a lot of noise where it was rubbing on the pressure plate fingers. This would eventually result in the fingers wearing leading to failure, so I fitted a pull off spring to minimise wear. There’s a lot of information on the Buckeye Triumphs website.

Flat to curved is ok; curved to flat is ok.
Peters is probably the best source though.

Just surmising, but with a flat surface (bearing), against a flat surface (clutch fingers), isn't the contact radius going to be indeterminate? This is going to cause chatter (dont we already get enough of that from the passenger ).

Exactly! A cover with flat fingers must have a curved bearing surface contacting them.. On some clutch covers the ends of the fingers are raised in to a "Dome". This type will need the bearing with a flat surface.

Yes I forgot about that type with curved fingers Mike. As you say needs a flat faced bearing in that case.
