    Stromberg Revs drop

    Hi,
The car was running very nice, after a wash , polish and wax. A I decided to fill up. At the petrol Station after fueling up the revs dropped all the way down and nearly cut off. I had to use the choke to get home. After parking at home I tried to run it without the choke, but the revs were all the way down to about 5. Switched off as it nearly stalled.
Any idea whats gone wrong, it was running ok until after the petrol station.

I have heard a few bad things about Tesco fuel. It's cheap for a reason!

This has happened with my Merc a couple of years ago.. After putting in Deisel at Tesco it started running and idlng really bad. A knowledgable mechanic told me to put in super deisel at Shell. The problem dissappeared.

Once the suspect fuel has been eliminated, if the problem remains, use a volatile spray to check for air leaks on the intake joints. If the revs rise when it’s sprayed, that’s where too look for a leak.
There are 2 secrets to staying on top :- 1. Don't give everything away.

                    If there's water in there??

35 quid is only 5 liters now!

I would drain as much as possible, ( take hose off carb and turn on ignition) then fill up with non tesco high octane.

It could not have developed an air leak fro home to the petrol station which is only a half mile away ....surely not? Or can it?
                      What intake joints anyway?
35 pounds of petrol is over 20 litre.

I have been using Tesco fuels in my stag, and my every day diesel on and off for years, and never had any problem with either. Ditto with Sainsburys.
The Stag is not overly sensitive to octane rating anyway, so it is more than just a 95 or 98 octane issue. It will run equally well on either.
If the fuel was contaminated, I reckon there would be dozens of other motorists in the area, with the same problem. Perhaps there are? .
Assuming you didn't top up with Diesel by mistake (?!) something else seems to have gone wrong, co-incidentally with your top-up.
                            Mike.
