Now I know what it is for! Thanks for that. I will try and get it going. Mine has never come on. I think I would notice PDQ if one circuit was below par. I once had a leak on one circuit and that produced some fairly dramatic symptoms. Similarly for a semi-stuck piston in one front brake calliper. Doesn't take much to drag it off line under heavy braking.

Mike, short out the connector on the PDWA to check if the switch/bulb/wiring is the problem.

Hi all, I've learnt a lot here - apparently my post #6 relates to early cars only, I hadn't researched later variations

Welcome to the crazy world of Stag electrics Philip. Just wait until you need to work out your internal lighting/door switches.

This is a good example of where confusion lies. Mine is LD25425 and was built 9th Nov 73 and has the earlier wiring. Each year there was an overlap of build dates between the old and new Sanctions.

Really weird Dave. Mine was built 3 days before yours and LD number is 4969 higher.

Not 4969, more like 400. Mine is 7 before the end of the Third Sanction series, the last of which was built around 22nd November 1973, yours is number 394 of the Fourth Sanction series, the first of which was built around 14th September 1973. A big overlap. I have seen several LD30001 series cars that were built before mine.
