    Steering wheel boss for Moto-Lita

    Hi team,

Can you get a steering boss for a Moto-Lita steering wheel that DOESN'T have a push horn in the centre?

I've looked everywhere and they all seem to have them?

    Thanks

The answer is yes. I bought mine directly from Moto-Lita. Cost £52.00. I then had it engraved locally

It's also fairly easy to fit the original Stag boss with a Mota-Lita, without damaging it. If you're interested, I'll dig out some photos.

Are you kidding me? 52 quid?

How long ago was that? They’re like almost £300 now…

I bought the steering wheel and mounting boss from Rimmers in 2020 for £210. It came with a Standard Triumph badge. I replaced this with the plain alloy one from Moto-Lita

I mounted a Mountney wheel on an original Stag boss. I just clamped it down between the thin ring and base.I worked for many years but found 13 wheel was too small and obstructed gauges. I now have a Moto Lita on it. It came with the original boss but not the top plastic part. I saw the cost, but my wheel isn't in great shape so I asked my kid to 3 D print something. It looks ok and will do. Maybe the Moto Lita can be clamped in the same way.

I have the Mota Lita on the Red Stag, had it for many years. Was going to put the same on the Sapphire Blue, but I noticed that owners have now resorted to change over to the original. I had a member who wanted to swap his almost new wooden Mota Lita for my original one on the Sapphire.
I could not remove it..then. Now I have and is in my spares box.
The one from my Red Stag is almost new so I have put it in the Sapphire Stag and I must say it looks pukka, it matches the colour of the car.

Here are some photos of the method I used to fit the Stag boss to the centre of my Mota-Lita P1010480.JPG P1010483.JPG P1010481.JPG

Pretty straightforward - think the general idea came from someone else on here though my method doesn't require modifying the boss. Am a great believer in retaining undamaged parts so it can be restored to "as original" should I or a future owner so require.

There's an inset in the boss that normally fastens to a rim on the standard Stag wheel. Got a steel disc from eBay - can't remember the diameter as it's fallen off the end of my purchase history, but just measure the centre hole and add on a bit (say 3 - 4mm). The magnet (also eBay or Amazon - 25mm IIRC) with an M5 thread, something like https://www.first4magnets.com/hook-e...1_22|ps_2_1356 . Drill an 5.5/ 6mm hole in the centre of the disc and countersink. The M5 screw has a countersunk head (otherwise you get a bulge in the middle) - looks like brass.. Get an over-length screw and cut to length. Fit the disc into the inset. Trial & error fit then tighten the locknut. Job done.

The Mota-Lita is 14" diameter, so marginally smaller than standard "Mk2". More comfortable to hold, especially as my hands have a tendency to cramp with the standard small rim. Only downside is the extra glare when the sun's behind you.

OK I think I'm asking the wrong thing here... maybe I don't mean boss?

Basically... How would I get this steering wheel, to fit onto the spline of the steering column.

The one I've currently got on there, probably a standard Stag one, does not look like the holes would line up at all...

So this is the bit I need, but to fit the Moto-Lita:

YES mate. THAT is what I'm looking for. Still pretty expensive though...!

Might have to wait till Christmas...

I seem to recall reading that the Mountney adaptor can work with the Mota-Lita wheels at a better price, though recommend you check, unless someone on here can confirm.
