    Another daft question I'm afraid

Hi Everyone, was thinking of heading up to Guildford today but I am going to try and get the new water pump in instead!

In the meantime I have what may be a daft question!

My centre consol has an extra switch! I have looked around and can't find out what it is for and it's intriguing me - as I already the car in about 100+ pieces I thought I would attack another area with a screwdriver just yet, I have the elec window switches (one of them actually works!), the interior light switch, and another original style switch on the RHS of the auto selector. Someone has added a DIY nasty switch to the consol too which I think may be wired up to the Kenlowe, I'll find out this one - but what is the 4th additional OEM style switch for ? Unfortuantely any icons on the switches disappeared years ago (PS I have done the obvious and pressed it!)

    Any ideas.....

And apologies if it is a daft thread!

    Cheers, Mike

A photo would be good, but I've only ever seen the three switches on the horizontal panel - windows and interior light.

HAVE YOU CHECKED YOUR HOOD WELL FOR MOTORS?

I never knew you could have this?

The previous owner did say the roof was very tough to move (and I can verify it) I will go and check .... do you know where the motors sit?

I could look a bit daft here!!! It never even crossed my mind - would it be an aftermarket option or could you actually spec it?

          Mike,

Perhaps it's an ignition isolation switch/immobiliser. I've got a 'secret' one on mine that's well hidden - unless I mention it on a public forum:?. But perhaps a PO thought it would be a neat idea to disguise it as an extre interior light switch?

            Hi Mike

Some thoughts: (Assuming it is an on/off type andnot the electric window type) The most obvious additions which would require a switch are additional lights to front or rear. Attached wiring, if any, will be the only clue to what it might have been for. Any sign of a warning light?

I can't see any motors for the roof so I am assuming not the case - the roof is very difficult to raise and lower, it's another job on the list!

The switch looks absolutely original, as the auto selector sits central to the console it sits to the right exactly like the interior switch, I'll try to upload a picture.

It is like an electric window switch, i.e. sprung on / off / on and sits in the central off position. At the moment I have the back bumper in pieces on the garage floor, and the carbs / manifold / water pump all out, so a bit reluctant to undo much more ... I'm glad there are some theories coming up and it wasn't an obvious error on my part!

              ,,,,,mystery continues......

In that case Electric aerial switch would be my guess.

Maybe it's a carefully fitted, but aftermarket, switch for an electric aerial ?Which may have been removed.

The ultimate answer is going to be follow the wires from the switch isn't it ? - although on my car there were two switches that led to nothing !

                  Happy hunting

somebody at one time may have had front or rear fog lamps wired up to it !!! it certainly is not a factory fitting !!

Thats a good thought, it has an electric aeriel fitted, but as with most things I have come across, it didn't go further than bolting it in, the wires are just hanging aound in the boot!

I thought that electric aeriels had power and earth and stayed down unless power was supplied down the separate lead to raise it?

Operation water pump today so I guess I'll have to wait with intrigue a bit longer!

                      ......

cant be for lighting as it is a sprung switch - hence you would have to hold it down to put the lights on......

At least I know it's not standard, I think I am going to have to check wiring - out of interest (I guess for auto's only) if you do need to fit an aux switch it looks completely original!

hey maybe in the 70,s ,it had air horns ,hence no warning light and sprung switch!!!

Just goes to prove there are no daft questions, only daft answers :P

Darren's sense of humour! Electric powered roof were way beyond the whit of BL when the Stag was developed. Just as well really. Only something else to go wrong

You may well laugh at the susgestion of an electric hood on the stag but one of the prototypes did have one fiitted for awhile to test the idea out. So not so daft really. Dont forget stags have electric windows, fuel pump cut outs before modern day cars.
