    distributor connections

Bought a boat 18 months ago so the Stag has been neglected. Now trying to get her on the road and am having problems with the distributor connections for HT leads and the coil connections. Haynes manual lists the firing order and says that the rotation is anticlockwise but how do I identify where cylinder 1 connects on Distributor cap so I can then get the order right?

Also, manual shows 3 connections to coil but I have 5 wires to connect and the colours are very faded. The 'extra' 2 wires go through the bulkhead so I assume they are to do with the tacho. Any thoughts anyone?

This might help with the dizzy -
Engine at TDC, check which of the leads the rotor arm points too.Make sure that this lead goes to No 2 plug left hand head.

    Cheers

Lead no. 1 will appear to be about 11O'Clock on the dizzy when viewing from the front of the car...think its the one nearest to the vacumm advance.

As for coil there will have that many alterations to cars sowe won't all be the same but if it helps mine are:

        1 O'clock connection yellow

5 O'clock connection white with grey

7O'clock connection pink with white and white with yellow

        11O'clock connection empty
