    Custom Triumph Stag

Here are some of the changes made to make my 73 Stag an even more enjoyable regular drive.

It already had the 3.9 EFI rover V8 installed with a 4 speed auto ZF gearbox.

Fitted seats from a Nissan Skyline after modifying the seat runners and trimmed in leather.

Made up my own centre console from mild steel which now houses switches for front heated seats, new modern window switches, mobile phone holders, cup holders and a centre arm rest with glove box.

Replaced gauges with Speed hut modern type with GPS speedo and oil press gauge as well as new steering wheel

    Gauges (sml).jpg

Rear seats re-foamed and trimmed in leather, made up new rear side panels ready for future rear speakers to be fitted.

New door cards with modified door arm rests now made wider and also storage tray with bottle holder.

After market A/C system fitted, evaporator sits in glovebox and original heater box retained. Under the dash mounted speakers.

I really like the Mods, well done! Looks superb. Just my personal taste........ I would have gone for some other wheels, otherwise I am green with envy.

Not sure I would have done centre console in mild steel. I would have used ply. But I guess in an accident both can

It will never be a show and shine car, she was pretty rough when I got her so had licence to cut and change to improve it.

These changes will make it more enjoyable as a regular drive and in 20 years when we are all driving electric cars it will be worn out and not worth anything to worry about. I like to make changes that are practical related and to my own taste.

By placing the battery in the boot, it also allowed me space for the A/C compressor, the radiator overflow bottle and windscreen bottle.

Also added a bunch of relays to improve power to the lights and also for the A/C system and radiator fan. I also placed a heat shield to protect these cables from extractors heat.

I have also fitted the CV drive shafts so no more twitchy bits in the rear.

Just saw your wiring and the relays , he's something I'm in the process of doing. I didn't tend to go really deep into it but into the wiring but it didn't look right. So I started to do a bit of checking started to strip the wiring down. Looks like it's going to be complete new or re wiring.

                  Bad wire.jpg

the point where it had shorted out and melted the wires, is the place where the loom clips just under the windscreen next to heater. It must have been years of slowly rubbing that had made the wise bear. The reason I started doing the wiring is I'm doing away with all the fuses and all the relays and fitting a PDM.

                    What is a PDM ??

                    Edit: Got it......
A PDM (Power Distribution Module) is a device used to replace conventional relays and fuses in a vehicle electrical system.

Very nice. One thing I hate on my Stag is the radio buttons. They are too far to reach comfortably.

Yes I also am replacing wiring where I can to minimise possible electric shorts and burning wires.

Ross the ZF 4 speed auto was done by previous owner so not sure if done here in Perth. I have made my own engine mounts making the engine sit a bit higher but not requiring the 20mm steel spacers under the front suspension beam therefore keeping the original stag front suspension set up. I did also have to make some modifications to the transmission tunnel when the engine and transmission was raised.

The 4 speed auto is worth the effort as it really makes it a nice cruiser.
