    Yes indeed, fair comment. Will take that into account. Not much mechanics round here who know about these cars and boxes. Will have to ask around.
    Just to add this was an auto that was converted by the PO. Wish he left it alone. Would have gone for a ZF.

            Try modern main dealers. Just had the first annual oil change on my year-old Audi at the local main dealer. £294 Nothing else, just an oil change! Their Labour rates are now £204/hour. At least Dick Turpin wore a mask

                  I learnt a valuable lesson about Mercedes main dealers in the U.K…. Buy the parts there. They will usually be reasonable quality & often cheaper than lower quality pattern parts.
                  Their service technicians are often only low or semi skilled as the dealer will not invest in the necessary training.
                  I was told the ‘technician’ could not establish communication with the ecu so I needed a new ecu (£1200)
                  I had to pay to get my car back. Without a fix or diagnosis.
                  The price was £127 for 30 minutes technician time (including vat & a basic car wash! - ten or twelve years ago!)
                  I bought my own diagnostics equipment.
                  I learnt that the dealer had used the wrong protocol to connect to the ecu…& was able to fix the fault easily myself & at a low price in parts. (£17)
                  I did like the shiny floor in the workshop though.
                  Last week I saw a 1 litre can of oil for sale in a petrol station for £62.

                    A naive young friend of mine was told his Head Gasket was gone on his Mini. It was overheating. I checked it out, found no mayonaise on the oil cap, no water coming from the exhaust etc etc.
                    I found the switch ad controller for the fan faulty. Easy and cheap fix.
                    Best to test, diagnose and fix yourself sometimes...........He was over the moon! His first car after passing his test.
