    Header tank position

    Hi all

Having read many posts on type and positioning of header tanks, i note that many of you have fitted tanks in front of the fuse box.

I was just wondering if it is possible to shorten the wiper motors worm drive thingyand move the motor (if there is enough room) to behind the dash then remove the old motorbracket giving an ideal position for a header tank. Forgive me if this is ridiculous idea. Mystag isstill in the paint shop, 6 weeks now:X and getting board painting parts.

    Regards Derek

I know plenty have positioned their header tanks up against the bulkhead, but really it is not necessary. Mine is around the suspension turret and you can fill the complete system through the tank...the bottom is higher than the top hose.

        Feel free

After all my current aluminium tank is only a copy with enhancements of my original mild steel tank I originally purchased from the late Geoff Tingle 20 years previously.

Approximate drawing ofmy original tank attached below

        Enhancements not on drawing being:
        • Additional hose connection into top radiator hose
        • Sight glass

Gary good solution to the empty top hose problem.

Could you tell me the electric switch in the top of the rad what size is it? does it control an electric fan?

i am hoping to fit one for my electric fan.

                  thanks

                      Hi Guys

The Thermo switch is a M22 threaded 95-105 deg switch wired into the fan via a relay.

The tank is from a Sierra 2wd Cosworth (You can get the ones with a built in level switch as well) but must admit just as easy to open bonnet and check level .

Radiator is modified with a lower feed and also the header pipe has been removed and silicon T Hose spliced into the Rad Return.

                      Hope that helps

                      Gary

It's the 3 door cosworth that has the level switch. Terry

                          Hello Gary,

M22mmmmm, i guess you had the boss soldered into the Rad?

i don't think M22 was around in th BL days of 1977 when the exact same location was used for the emission control crap installed for Australia was fitted. :?

                          Appreciate your reply though

                            Hi Nige

Your right i did have the Rad modified - if you have the Vacuum switch fitted already i would get you friendly local Rad specialist to remove the soldered nut and replace with an M22 Nut you will then have access to far more different types of Thermostat.
