    Camshaft sprocket re assembly

Good afternoon. in the process of re-installing a camshaft into my stock Stag engine and wondering the purpose of the 16mm 'threadless' nut on the other side of the sprocket ? When fitting it all back together this nut seemed to become loose but does not tighten as has NO thread ! Problem is it could work its way forward to the end of the thread (which attaches to the service bracket). and fall off........anyone have any ideas how I can re-locate this nut onto the Cam Sprocket Locating Pin ?? Your thoughts would be appreciated................thank you

I think you are referring to part number 149787 ("Chainwheel pin") in the parts catalogue. It is there for the threaded end, on which to fit a nut when using the sprocket support bracket. The head on the opposite end of the pin from the threaded end is too large to pass through the sprocket, and the head fits in to a cavity in the end of the camshaft so it can't move either waY. It won't matter if it isn't a tight fit.

That's very helpful Mike, many thanks . I will tap the threadless nut back onto the Chainwheel Pin shaft. Any one ever heard of NYLOCK nuts being used on the cam caps ? I guess the studs and nuts that hold the Camshaft Caps down are steel ? many thanks once again>.............
