I have purchased a new radiator for my stag but when I tried fitting it it is too big. It measured 570mm wide and the old one is 555mm. The supplier says it can be fitted slightly forward of the body but not sure how this is supposed to work. I had to enlarge one of the locating holes for the bottom fixing studs as they did not line up and when I tried to fit the radiator the ends hit the sides of the opening. Any one know how to deal with this? I dont want to do a bodge job because of a wrongly sized radiator?

The bolt length can be checked for its engagement.
On a mk2 the factory bolt was far too short… only gave 3 turns of thread engagement!
you’re probably ok taking 5mm off if it’s mk 2
engagement should be 5/8” minimum.
5/8 unf x 4/1/2” is what I fit. (18tpi)
If it needs cleaning use a long reach tap.
apologies for mixing up units!…. You said 5mm!Last edited by jbuckl; 7 April 2022, 23:44.There are 2 secrets to staying on top :- 1. Don't give everything away.

Alan.
If it helps at all, I had mine rebuilt some years ago with the four-row offset core used in most Mk.2 cars. This type was one of three tested for the Club by engineers at the Gaydon Motor Museum, and was found to be the most efficient.
I have just measured mine. The maximum width across the tanks is 6 cm. The core is 4 cm wide. and there is a clearance of just over 1cm between the pulley bolt and the core, which is just enough to pass a belt through.
