An appeal to the Ministry of the Interior....

.... having just re-covered one of my B-post trim panels, and made a bit of a c**k of it, I thought I'd see if there is any wisdom/experience among other members before I tackle the second one. The main issue I had was with the piped seam at the top of the new cover, where there is a large accumulation of material which needs to be accommodated somewhere (see photo). I sought advice from the supplier, who suggested that this accumulation should be positioned on the top of the trim panel, though on installing the panel I find that it interferes with the fitting of the T-bar and the result is that the vinyl at the top of the B-post appears baggy. Does anybody have any suggestions to offer for how to achieve the best outcome with this job?

Another question I have relates to the stainless steel B-post protectors - are these meant to be fixed only to the B-post trim panel, or fixed through this into the B-post itself? The length of the screws supplied with them suggests the latter, though in such case there would appear to also be a conflict of some of the fixings with the edge of the stainless steel B-post capping.

Currently putting the interior back together, having fitted new carpets and now working with re-covering B-post trims, new cubby panels and door cards, and so far not having much fun getting all the bits to work together - in fact it's probably the most disheartened I've felt through all the work that I've done on the car - and I'm not even having to lie on my back underneath it!

Any words of wisdom, guidance or moral/spiritual support would be most welcome - thanks!

Trim as much of the excess off as possible, it's not going to be seen, you only need enough to keep the stitching in place so 3mm 1/8" is ok then trim the edges after a trial fit 6-8mm excess should be ok there.

Can't remember if I took notes - you might find something on the White Blue Bavarian Stag thread - posts around Jan 2016 DSC02171.JPG DSC02169.JPG DSC02157.JPG DSC02163.JPG . I did, however, take some before an after photos which might help a bit

I just looked at my spare set of Mk1 panels. The ends of the material inside have been cut almost down to the stitch line leaving very little excess material, then the piping has been opened up and the plastic line cut right up to where it folds over the end of the metal. that second last picture of Drews shows it on the left where you can see the end of the line and the opened up material that goes around the line is flat, those flat pieces were pulled tight and glued inside.

6_8mm excess down the outer edges once fitter but allow for the door seal to cover the edge, it needs to cover both sides of the metal seam so the trim holde it in place, use a brushable contact adhesive

Thanks everyone - I'll crack on with the other side and hopefully make a better job of it!

Yes, so thanks to the help from the Forum, I've made a far better job of the other side. So now I'm stripping the first one to do it again....

I have enough of the foam and was planning to order a new vinyl cover from Paddocks as they sell them individually, rather than as pairs - however their website doesn't seem to be working. Anybody else having trouble with it?
