Fabric roof repair - any ideas welcomed!

Got the Stag out for first time since NY run and found a large split in the fabric roof. Something may have dropped on it but still surprised. Its across the passenger side (at least I won't get wet) about 9" long.
OK teh roof isn't best but was hoping to get away with it a little longer especially as frame will need work.

Has anyone made a temporary repair?

Was thinking of pulling centre together with stitching then gluing rest with upholstery glue, maybe reinforcing with tape inside. Not looking for perfection but something that will survive this year.

    Any ideas appreciated - thanks

Use a good contact adhesive and with no tension on the roof glue a patch on the inside. Worked OK for me on a tr5 soft top

I have some spare hooding material that you can glue onto the inside if you want me to pop some in the post with a large letter stamp? I can do beige or black lining.

Thanks for responses Phil and Wheelz, good ideas. I looked on net and they sell "patch kits" but unsure how effective, I like the idea of gluing a thicker spare piece in place but unsure whether will flex enough when dropping hood and just unstick? The outside is black and probably best colour even tho inside is tan. How much do you want for a small piece Wheelz?

        Cheers

IUse contact adhesive, and it wont unstick, I have done several patches that way. Put the patch on the inside, glue on the black side with beige facing inwards so it will not look too bad. From the outside if you hold the torn edges together it will hardly notice.

Just PM me your address and I will post a piece out to you. No charge.

Hi Wheelz that sounds really positive, thanks - most of time its top down but just when you need top up last thing you need is a deluge inside !

I'll PM separately - really appreciated - thanks

            Cheers

Hi Paul, I had a rip in mine so went straight to my wife's sewing basket and using a thick thread and curved needle i stitched it. Then as Chris said, using a piece of vinyl i used Evo stick contact adhesive after that i dampened the roof and sprayed Fabsil water proofing with a garden hand pump sprayer. That worked a treat when we went to Silverstone last year with all that rain . My '75 Stag still has the original roof
              and has never leaked.
