oil build up between heads

Mk 2 Stag (38k miles) running well but oil building up between heads. Is this the beginning of gasket failure?

Water pump oil seal most likely.
You need to try & identify the source though before dismantling anything.

Or running down from a cam cover gasket, one of mine is currently doing this.

Give it all a good clean first and find the source of the leak.

Many thanks for suggestions. I have cleaned up the oil and will see what happens. The water pump oil seal would be a good result!

The cam cover gasket would be a much better result! Much less work / hassle. Clean & dry the V area, and use talcum powder to trace the source of the leak. Start with the easy stuff first; don't immediately assume it's the worst case.

Chalk is another good way as the oil stains the chalk line where it runs across, the same a water based felp tip on masking tape for water leaks in the car.

Is it manual or auto?
I have seen oil in the vee from an auto kickdown cable
