DIFF NOSE EXTENSION - ADVICE and CAN I GET THE PARTS??

    Hi all,
Intend to weld support plates to the diff nose after seeing advice/comments on this forum. So my question is:
convinced i've read this here, so am i correct in thinking the plates should be welded in place with the assy still intact ie bearings in situ etc?

BTW ......... have edited my original post as i'm truly an idiot!!! All parts available at the bros - just needed to turn the page

Any advice welcome as always folks
    Many Thanks
    Gord

I got some plates from my local hardware store. I cut and welded them in with every thing removed. Some folks have said keep the old bearing in there and weld and then replace the bearing.

It is important to remember that welding plates to the diff nose extension can distort it if the weld is too intense. That's why some prefer to weld with the extension properly bolted up to the differential casing. It's of no matter whether the bearing is installed or not, that's at the front of the housing, not at the back where you are welding.

Having done a few of these, you will have a hard time getting so much heat in that you will distort it. Not saying it is impossible but very difficult - its very thick and the plate you're welding only needs to be 3-5mm so you don't need masses of heat to get a good weld

Happy to do some if people aren't confident doing it themselves - love getting my welder out, I am a stag owner after all

Many thanks for the kind offer, but i'm an engineer (allegedly ) so the welding side of things isn't a problem.
          Appreciate the comments folks
          Cheers to all

I welded a coupling around the extension out of the car. I cut it up into four segments and had one of the welders at work do it I had the flanges bolted to a holder that i made. I used a pipe coupling bored it out and cut the od then cut it into segments fitted it and welded.
