Further challenges in The Interior

Please can somebody tell me what I have wrong here? Just dry-fitting the back seat, following installation of new cubby panels and I find I have this naked area at the extremities of the seat base. Is the kickboard carpet meant to extend over to cover these areas? Or something else?

There’s a flap of vinyl material goes there.. I think it was stitched to the carpet..

Nothing suchlike on the carpet set I bought - guess I'll be reaching for the vinyl and glue again
