    Changing the Choke cables

I replaced the inner choke cables with bicycle gear cables, and cut off the glued-on choke knob to be replaced by one with a grub screw. When others have done this, can you advise how to best join the new cables to the metal plunger (cables at one end, knob at the other) please? Do you splice them into a short tail of the previous cable - I think I might end up with a too large diameter to work afterwards? Or do you fix some other way? Or is a different plunger available that I can insert the new cables into?

I made a YouTube video on how I went about doing mine. I did not show the steps but talk about the process. Also look in the description.

Babord. If you drill the cable out of the metal holder you can then use silver solder to re-attach the stainless cable into the metal holder through the holes you just drilled out.

solver solder isn’t the cheapest thing but it does work.

So drill the old one out and then epoxy in the new. Drilling out looked fiddly and I hadn't thought of epoxy, so I will give that a try. Many thanks!

oops, didn't see your response Goldstar - thanks as well. I will see if I can find silver solder locally, or if not try epoxy which I already have.

I think silver solder has a high melting point, might need a bigger heater.

I did it with a standard plumbers torch no problem. It does have a highish melting point though you are right. You have to be patient.

My son took it into school and had a play in the workshop. Drilling out the cable turned out to be easy. He put small welds into the two holes he drilled and then hammered in. Apparently you can't weld directly as the gear cables are treated. Will be harder to get out next time, but will hopefully last a while. Now installed and working nice and smoothly.
