    Power steering pump leak

Just acquired my first Stag. The previous owner had just fitted a recon power steering pump (from Rimmers) on the day that I viewed the car. There was power steering fluid pooled under the pump, but was told this was just leakage during installation. Got the car, cleaned up the fluid and had a drive. On return there was fluid under the pump again. With torch and mirror, identified the leak as being from a 3/8 UNC/11/16 AF bolt situated at the bottom of the tank/pump on the rear face, below the 2 hose connections. Took out the bolt, half expecting to drain the tank in the process, but nothing came out. Re-installed the bolt with a fibre washer under the head. My questions are : What's this bolt for ? Should it have a seal ? Is it on the high pressure side, because it only seemed to leak during running ?

If you take the unit apart, there should be, under the bolt locations, a square profiled O ring to stop fluid leaking out. It could be due for a rebuild.

Thanks for your advice. I have now found the true cause of the leak. There is a corrosion pinhole in the reservoir.
