    Help...Please

Hi, I have been a Stagfan for years and bought one 3 years ago. This is my first email, one of many I think!!!!!
I know nothing about cars at all (if it stops and has got petrol in it I'm lost!!), and yes I still went and got one. Not a very good one either. I only paid £2k for it so you can imagine what state it's in? It failed it's MOT last year and the tester said I should get rid of it due to the amount of work needed, mainly due to the amount of rust.
So I bought two new floor pans etc, etc and had them welded on and hope to get it MOT'd soon.It would be fantastic to have it on the road this year.
I have put back the interior, but have a problem with the seat belts. They are both fitted in yet I can't get them to auto-stop. They both move freely, but won't click and stop. What am I doing wrong?
Also I have recently bought a second hand soft top and in the books it says that when I fit it in I need fit a 'jig bolt' and position it....
Do I need this jig bolt and if so what does it do?
I have been an avid reader of the site for the past 6 months or so and really enjoy the sense of humour in many of the emails and their replies.

    Andrew.

Hello Andrew...yes we're all mad as a box of frogs on here and you'd be amazed what we term as humour.

Anyway to your questions...I'll have a stab before all the knowledgeable ones get home.

You might not be able to get your seatbelts to lock just by yanking on them as they don't all work like that. There will be a ball bearing in yours that moves forward when thecar brakes excessively. This is what locks the belt.

Somebody else mentioned jig bolts not long ago and the concenus of opinion was we don't need them and most of of have never seen them.

So....welcome to the forum...don't worry about asking questions....that's how I learnt and hope you get your car onthe road soon

I'm off out now to our meet before someone comes on and tells you what I've said is a load of bo**ocks

      Hi Andrew.
As David said you don't need the jig bolts .as for the seat belts if the reel that bolts to the inner sill is not level it will not work this is because the ball inside is ether to far forward or to far back ,slacken it off a little and experiment till it locks then tighten it up

Welcome Andrew, Let me congratulate you for not heeding the mot testers advice and thereby saving another Stag from the scrapyard.

You will find all the answers you need to keep the Stag on the road from this forum, especially from a bloke who should have named his Stag Kermit.

        Sukh.

            Andrew,

As far as the seat belts are concerned, some have arrows on the outside of the retractor units. These should be mounted so that the arrows are both verical.

If you can't get them to work properly, bin them. It's not worth messing about with safety.
