My dimmers rear bumper was terrible.Originally posted by flying farmer View PostDon't even think about repro chrome bumpers if your car ever gets damp, I bought a replacement rear centre section about 3 years ago and its now as bad as the 40 year old one it replaced
Also heard of a similar front bumper where the chrome blew off in the wind on the way home after fitting

Even brand new, stainless bumpers have a yellow tint compared to the blue tint of quality chromework. Although this is only noticeable if the two are parked next to each other. Stainless is still the sensible option if both bumpers require replacement. I had my front one repaired and re-chromed by S&T a few years ago after the local Yodel driver reversed into it.Originally posted by JeffW View PostI had a repro rear from the brothers and it was indeed awful. Cheap, thin and poorly made. I also had stainless steel ones, which were better quality, but just to flag they have a tendency to turn yellow, especially near the exhaust.

Interesting, I didn't notice the tint when they were first installed but after a few months really noticed it near the exhaust.Originally posted by DJT View Post

When I bought the recent Stag Stag it had really dirty and hah sort of pitted marks on them, I cleaned them with Coca Cola (non Diet, dont know why?) and Kitchen Foil shiny side.
They came out sparking! To my delight and surprise they were brand new Stainless Steel. But had been standing and being effected by the elements for some time before my ownership......it had little effect on the Steel. So Stainless Steel is the way to go, having said that , Chrome will be Chrome its beautiful on any classic car.
