    Door lock/handle fitting

Hi, Has anyone done a tutorial on fittng a new/old door handle?
I am finding it difficult to get the rod connected to the hole inside the door and also dont understand how the other rod already inside the door connect to the handle.
Your help will be invalulable. I have already scratched and broken the paintwork around the handle area, which I have repaired and sprayed and dont want a repeat of it again, fumbling about fitting it.

Edit. In the picture, does number 2 need to be adjusted to fit number 1 in the hole inside the car which is a small metal plate cconnected to the door lock mechanism, which way round shout it hook in? From the left side or right side of the metal plate with the hole?

Also number 3, where does it fit? Does the rod inside the car on the right side just goes in through its middle?
    Hope all this makes sense?

Not taken this on with a stag door ,when but doing this years ago on other cars the lock/latch was fitted after the handle and the last thing to go into the door was the glass and winder mechanism.
don't know how much space there is to play with but it was/is a pig of a job until you have mastered double jointed fingers. Good luck.

I have just replaced the black plastic handle inserts on my car. Previous ones were rather grey and scratched. The job went quite easy apart from fitting the handle back on the car as the new rubber gasket is thicker than the one I removed. But got there eventually after busting two new gaskets. Third time lucky I guess.

I did not remove any other part of the door latch, just the clip that goes on part 1 in your picture. The hook of part 1 was facing outwards, towards the door skin.

I'm not sure what part 3 is and I did not need to adjust part 2.

Part 3 engages the lock on the latch. (Rod through slot so to speak)
part 1 operates the release of the latch & is adjustable.
Thinner rubber gaskets are available at Soc spares.
if the black lifter is wedged up, for inserting & fitting, access to the rear screw is easier .

I got the rubber gaskets from SOC spares. The one I removed was much thinner, probably compressed by age.

            They have 2 thicknesses.
I believe the triumph original was a thin waxed card!

Done and dusted, one of the most easy jobs that I dreaded to do, the notorious screw was pretty easy to do. Just wedged the black insert then used a long thin extension and long socket. Put some bluetac on the socket and screw away......thank you all for the encouragement.
