Hi engine recently rebuilt. New coil and Stagweber distributor. Idles beautifully and will rev up to 2500 revs. Above that rev counter goes to 0 and the engine will not power up any further.
I think that has to be an electrical issue, and from what you say, probably the ignition module, even if it is new. That is why the rev counter is behaving as it is.
I think you need to have a word with the supplier because these things can sometimes happen "Out of the box". He is sure to replace it FOC.

I can't see it being the coil cutting out like that at precisely 2500 rpm, so I think it will be the module inside the distributor. You need to get it properly electronically tested to find out.

I used to be a fan of ****spark modules but having had two fail in the same manner - worsening misfire when they got hot,
I now firmly believe they do not like the "hot" location of the Stag distributor.
Now gone back to the pertronix 1 (which I was not keen on - coil cooker), but now it's only used as a Hall Effect Trigger for EFI ECU.
The ECU fires the coil now, no current flows unless the engine is turning over.
It shouldn't be. The +++++spark one that I use (!) works perfectly well with a ballast resistor coil, but it would be worth checking to see if the one you have only works with a 12 volt system
