Hi, I'm fitting a new uprated clutch and wondered should I get the flywheel skimmed before I put it all back together. I was having juddery clutch problems before, was thinking that I should try to eliminate all possible causes before refitting.
If the surface is not scored or cracked you dont need a reskim. If the surface is blackened (burnt oil etc) sand it clean with fine emery or w/dsandpaper.
Just done my clutch etc and the flywheel was crazed beyond repair ,got another one of Tim Shoubridge which was also crazed but not as bad.I had it skimmed (£30) and now have a very smooth clutch, mine was very poor before. It's a gamble i guess but i would go for the skim ,it's a lot of work taking it out again for £30.
Thanks for all the advice. I have managed to get the flywheel ground on a large lapping machine, no scores or marks on it now. Hopefully this should help when I reassemble.
thanks
