    Steering wheel vibration

My car has new springs and dampers, has been poly bushed, has a new set of tyres, the wheels have been balanced and checked again after 250 miles and has had all 4 wheels aligned. One wheel had gone slightly off balance now corrected.

I get steering wheel shake starting at 60 mph that peaks at 75 and then recedes. I cant feel anything through the seat.

If I put full lock on shortly after starting up a get a very brief squeal from the font end.

I am wondering what this points to, an issue with the steering rack? The car has been recently rebuilt and some slight play was noted but the restorers didnt feel it warranted any remediation.

Any thought from this august body as to what might be responsible?

Squeal is almost certainly the belt. Mine squeals when cold and full lock. You can tighten the belt to get rid of this, but I live with it for those rare moments as I don't won't extra load on the bearings.

The wobble sounds like front wheel balancing to me. Perhaps they need balancing on the car - see the other threads about this recently. Nuts/centre holes not being centred. Do the wheels run true when you jack them off the ground and rotate them?

I have a couple of steel wheel nuts that have a taper. I centre the wheel with the two tapered nuts then fit the alloy ones, This has helped my vibration problems.

If you have the wheels balanced on the car make sure you have centred them first as the problem will reoccur when the wheels are removed.
