    Cylinder Block Drain Plugs

Please could someone clarify how the near side cylinder block drain plug can be removed - I'm struggling to access the plug with any tool, let alone stick a length of wire in. Is it accessed from above or below, and do any components need to be removed first for access?

The nearside one is easily reached with a socket and extension. The offside one is easier with a ring spanner.

Sounds stupid, but when trying to remove the one next to the starter motor, disconnect the battery. I have personally seen sparks in front of my eyes. With all my sockets and extensions and angles, I accidently touched the plus lead on the starter motor against the engine block.

Can anyone kindly confirm the thread on these plugs/ ports.
I planned to use fittings to allow a quick connect for block flush assumed a 1/4" BSPT but couldn't get a fitting started with this thread.
        Cheers

I purchased new block drain plugs from a well know supplier and they didn't fit. I have tried every thread there is with the view for the quick flush but nothing fits. I always have to reuse the old plugs which are starting to disintegrate. Maybe the thread in the block has been recut? I would be interested to know what the correct thread should be? Many thanks. M
