    I’m sure I’ve read about this before…

just fitted new brake shoes on rear and can’t for the life of me get the rear drums back on over the new shoes.

sorry for all the weird characters, I’m posting this from my phone because I’m f’…!?king outside trying to get the f’&£king thing back together!

It is ok. It is on. Whether it will turn or not is a different matter.

Did you back off the adjusters? That’s the usual suspect. Once fitted then you need to reset them.

I had the same experience, added to by the flexible pipes acting like a 1 way valve and not letting the fluid pressure go down.
The adjusters were backed right off, but they were a tight fit getting the drums back on, the drums and shoes being all new there was no wiggle room. Tapping the drum all round to get it on gave me vissions that they would never come back off but seem to have settled in now.

It’s also worth skimming to remove the lip.
Adjusters might not work effectively if the new shoes touches the lip.
Imho they work well if restored to original.

Spot on jbuckl Julian, If the lip is pronounced the first thing that you and I would check would be that the drum thickness is still in tolerance. Else replace it.

I was donated 20 Range Rover non-ABS brake disks. all had been skimmed and all were way below the minimum thickness "recommended"

And I say "recommended" because I have dealt with cars that have come in from France, Spain and Portugal (you know? within the EU) that were road legal yet the brake discs were not much thicker than a 78rpm records
