    Spoiler alert

    Hi Folks,
I have been gently recommissioning the stag I bought in October. It's an RV8 but don't hold it against me.
Runs great now but had one last bit on the cooling that i didn't really like. Cools fine under all conditions and never gets over 95oC. Helps having a new Rad and decent electric fan. Only issue was temperature increases when driving at speed. Never overheats but temp raises to 95 oC at high speeds. Reading the archive I decided I need more airflow through the Rad at speed. So added a tr6 spoiler. First experiences are great. Doesn't go over 90 and even overcools at speed.
Just shows the effect of scooping more air through the Rad. Actually like the look of it.

Its the reason I have TR6 spoilers on both mine.
I have always said that there's nothing wrong with the cooling capacity of the radiator, its a design deficiency in the bodywork thats the problem.

Best mod I’ve done for years. Previously the front end felt light at 80+. Now it feels firmly planted on the “test track” at 100 and probably beyond..
Can’t comment on the cooling as never been an issue,

+1 for the TR6 spoiler, holds the nose firmly down out to maximum.

A perhaps simpler solution is from LD Parts. The secret spoiler which I use. It does a good job of deflecting air to the bottom of the radiator. See http://www.ldpart.co.uk/shop/shop.ph...ncat=4&start=0.
i have tested this on a hot day running at speed, and the temperature gauge has remained steadily in the middle.
I have no vested interest in LDParts either.

I have both fitted, Nigel. Not that I'm paranoid or anything....

I do wonder whether the spoiler influences cooling in 2 ways..
                1) directing more air into the lower part of the Rad
                2) creating a low pressure zone below and behind the Rad which draws hot air out and down under the the engine..
                Cheers

Quick question on a point of information chaps - do the TR6 spoilers fit without any modication to either spolier or Stag?

Only mod is drilling holes in valance and filling them with rivnuts

Or drilling holes in the valance and fitting nuts, washers and nylocks.

Probably a bit of both. The problem with the Stag is the front panel is quite high off the ground which I reckon allows a lot of air to flow under the front panel and effectively pressurise the engine bay which prevents a large amount of flow through the rad.
When I fitted the Stag engine to my TR250 I also fitted a TR6 front spoiler and was amazed at the transformation in stability at speed. Both engines weighed within a few pounds of each other, but my 250 with the PI engine was horrible above 80mph compared to my TR6 which was stable right up to its maximum speed. The TR6 had a spoiler fitted. With a spoiler fitted to the TR250 it was equally as good.

I have wondered what its flat out speed would be. 20 years ago I had it up to 140mph on the continent (taken from the rev counter, the speedo was all over the place) Its got another 90bhp now but the tyres are not rated high enough and there are too many speed cameras about!

I’ve had the fibreglass variety on mine ( available from Rimmers) in the past but now the TR6 one which is the only one of the two that work both for additional cooling and stability.
Mine is held on with nuts and bolts.

Put one on my TR6 which has a supercharged straight 6. Not been up to your lofty speeds but certainly helped it stabilise and speed. The only thing limiting it is me now.

                              I have neither

Did a 100-mile round trip into Cornwall on one of the hottest days last week. Maintained a steady 70mph on the A30, with one potentially licence destroying increase along an otherwise deserted stretch of straight road. Needle remained steady just left of centre. Kenlowe fan did not come on even when stopped at my destination.
