Just watched the new series of mcdonald and dodds, saw a red stag and pointed out to the wife the stag was leaping backwards on the badge, she wasn’t impressed

I examined the many Stags at the Silverstone meeting last year and photgraphed all of those that had backwards stags - including mine. I don't remember how many but there were probably a dozen.
I think the direction of one of the leaping Stags depends on the age of the car. Mine was one of the last built and registered in 78 - one Stag leaps backwards. I buy in to the theory they were using up the parts bin and must have run out of one type!

You may well be right. The last Stag off the production line in the Gaydon museum also has one stag going backwards. Perhaps they did run out at the factory towards the end, but I can't believe there wasn't one Leyland dealer in the whole of the UK that hadn't got both in stock had they wanted to fit the proper one.. I think they had just lost interest by then. I wonder what else was bodged on the last few cars?
The Club did offer to give the correct one to Gaydon to fit to their Stag, but they said they preferred to leave it "Original"!
Mike.
