    Jim Vangent Stag Trim

Has anyone else had issues with Jim Vangent. I've just had a very unpleasant experience with Jim where he has ignored my instructions and made my trim out of the leather he wanted to use and cost me a lot of money.
I went with him after good reviews here, but have now lost a lot of money.
I realised from the moment I received the trim I had been let down rather badly.
Be interested to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience.
Trim was over a month late
    Also very rude

For me it's simple and nothing achieved by naming and shaming on here.
        Assuming:
1.You have not got what you ordered.
        2. Try to come to some agreement with him that gets you either a)what you ordered, or b) a refund.
        3. If you can't get agreement you are covered under the Consume Rights Act 2015, and can make a claim possible in the Small Claims Court system.

It’s not so much about naming and shaming, more about giving people a heads up to a service being offered that is to be avoided. That’s all.

Looking at it from my point of view as an upholsterer you should always have an agreement before any work is started. this should say what material is being used whether it's leather or vinyl. The colour and the design also which parts are being done where it's just one seat or a whole car. then little bits and pieces like are you having piping and is it gonna be the same colour or is it going to contrast. They should also be a breakdown of the price or just the complete price.

Then when the deposit is paid the pollster then will order the material and foam/scrim.

Once all the materials arrived and the upholsterer has got a time frame to do it he should let you know the materials are in and hes about to start it so if you want to change anything or add anything or take anything away now is the time to do it as it be too late when started.

Then when the seat is just about to be completed he'll e-mail your phone you and let you know if you're ready in a couple of days, this is a reminder to the customer to get that sort of money out . it also lets the new car seat settle for day to allow for manipulation to make it sit correctly.

Some people are blown away when they first see the seats while others will always pick fault and try and get some discount. If I don't think something is good enough I won't let it go or I'll mention it to the customer and come to some sort of agreement.

But if I have done something that was not asked for or wasnt stated in the agreement /contract then I'll be in the wrong. Majority of car pollsters do charge a lot of money for what they do but some of them I wouldn't say they're worth the cost but some of the work is very very good and to a brilliant standard.

The only time I might do something the customer didn't ask for is if the look that he wanted was unachievable with the material that he wanted or once I started cutting bits out and started to put it together it looked wrong but i would inform the customer what i was doing.

I’ve been there as well. Had first class service and came home with a first class product. Couldn’t have been happier. Ÿ‘ŸĵŸ‘Ÿĵ

Non of that happened I'm afraid.
I was sent a sample I said no to, then the order was forgotten and rushed.
I actually sent samples of the colour I wanted which I was told would be matched. I even went to see him and explained in detail what I was looking for.
I was then sent an interior trim set in the colour I had said no to!
It's a long story but at the end of the day as like so many things at the moment, everyone is rushing, taking on too much work and making mistakes and then not taking responsibility for it. Sign of the times sadly.
Am now trying to sell my interior here on the forum as Jim not interested.
I'm too busy to deal with people like this.
That was the point of my post, to save people wasting their time and money on a service like this.

Sorry tale… I found Jim to be good.
Have had some poor service from traders recently though.

Yeah he was wrong then really by the sound of it but each upholsterer has a different way of doing stuff, I should imagine if he sent a trim set that was the wrong colour it's possibly one he had already done. But if it is completely the wrong colour that is a nono really. If it's a slightly different shade sometimes that cannot be helped as sometimes different roles can be slightly different shades of the same colour.

But as you've had a bad experience yeah you should air it on a forum like this to let other people know. And it also educates people to the correct process and to make sure it dosent happen before handing the money over. It also gives the chance of people who had a good experience with the supplier to also show the other side of the coin. But I know it is annoying if you don't get something you like and I should imagine it did cost quite a bit even though in materials you probably only talking about £120 unless it's leather probably near £600 pounds.

The quality seems fine, it's just his attitude! Incredibly rude and at no point taking responsibility for his mistake. I had to leave the workshop with the trim as I didn't want a scene in front of his daughter.
I waited three months for this to be completed and it arrived in the colour I rejected!
I am now having to get a new trim made in the correct colour at Aldridge's and hope I can sell my brand new trim from Jim.
What really annoys me is I sent him the samples I wanted and he said no problem. Sent me another sample I didn't like but used it anyway. Then he sends me an email explaining how I had ignored his requests to refund my deposit and that I had ok'd the colour even though I have WhatsApp conversations proving everything. Madness!
Anyways, life is too short, but I am incredibly disappointed and cross but life goes on.
Someone will get a lovely trim set if they like the colour which is all ready to go.
Off to the land of zzz's now for some peace...

Yes, it cost me £2800! Luckily I'm an adult so thought it best to walk away rather than argue with the unpleasant fellow

I have had a bad experience with Aldridge trimmers . I booked in for a new hood. I had already had the frame powder coated. Came to collect the car, to find some arrogant individual had decided to increase the length of the side panels by almost 30mm, When questioned he said "this is how we recommend these to be trimmed". Didn't question it at the time , but just looks ridiculous .Couldn't go back. Their car snobbery is unbelievable. Now going to find a local chap who can cut 30mm off this over long hood. Any suggestions , Worcester area.

I have fitted many Aldridge covers and they are the best fit as original, and they also look great. Also found their service pretty good. But what do you mean by the length of the side panels? Have you got a picture?

jim makes his hoods a tiny bit bigger than standard and a mile bigger than hoods available from some suppliers.

the extra fabric is to cover the rubber behind the b post and also the deck panel.

i think it looks great and keeps the water out too
