    Wheel Balancing - Solution

    Hi team,

Hope you are all well! I'm sure you've seen my recent posts about vibrations and wheel balancing.

If, like me, you have wheels that don't like being balanced on the centre holes (and need balancing on the 4 studs - a common issue with Stag wheels!) then I have found a solution!
(And it's WAY easier than trying to take a rear hub apart....)

There are specific types of Peugeots which have centerless wheels, and use a 4 stud configuration. Find a local tyre place with one of these adaptor plates, and it will fit your Stag wheels.
The studs are a lot thinner, but they use special conical wheel nuts.

I've attached a couple of pics.

For those in and around Southampton, I tracked one down (by literally visiting a ton of tyre shops via word of mouth - "Oh talk to Steve there, he'll know" - "Oh yeah, there's an old guy Dean in that place, he'll know what to do" etc etc) in a place called HiQ Tyres and Auto Centre in Hedge End (£10 per wheel):

Shop for tyres online and book your car in for a tyre fitting, MOT or car service online at your local HiQ Tyres & Autocare Hedge End (Tyreshops) centre.

Worked a treat for me. Happy 'Wobble Free' Driving!!

good work Chix for the balancing.

interestingly maybe the last set of tyres i hD fitted couldn't work via the stud holes so i told them not to worry, as i would get my man in Hazlemere to have a go. to be honest i havent found that they need balancing at all.

for tracking checks most computer systems say "no!" to triumph stag.

through hit and miss i amhappy with Jag XJ6 s2 settings being used

My local F1 Auto Centre had these 4 stud hubs to balance wheels on, a service they call Precision Balancing and charge an extra £11 for.
unfortunately they didn't have wheel nuts to lock my wheels on with. Gone missing apparently.
Anyway had to settle for basic balancing after purchasing new tyres through the hub centre. All seems good so far, no wheel wobbles.

I think I've heard somewhere that original wheels are ok for centre balancing, its the aftermarket ones made to look like originals that have the issue. I may be wrong!

No, most of the early 70’s and before wheels need to be balanced on the studs.. it’s more likely the other way round, aftermarket wheels having been made in more modern times may actually be Ok to balance on the centres .

Why not just get them balanced on the car?

That was frowned on decades ago (1980's), it masks potential problems in the hub.

I have original 1974 alloys and they do balance fine via the centres. Just one point on the graph I know..
